CHVE (COLIN H VAN EECKHOUT, AMENRA) AND SCOTT KELLY (NEUROSIS) ON TOUR IN EUROPE THIS JANUARY

Belgium's COLIN H VAN EECKHOUT (Church of Ra) and SCOTT KELLY (Neurosis) will be touring Europe together this coming January, marking the first time Kelly has embarked on a solo tour since 2012. Both artists will be performing in very different guises from their respective bands, presenting stripped back and intimate, personal music from their own songbooks. Find all dates below...

CHVE recently released his debut solo album Rasa, available through Consouling Sounds and Tartarus Records (listen through their Bandcamp). Comprised of his voice and the hurdy-gurdy, Rasa is a series of droning, ambient soundscapes that dig deeper than folk, directly into the consciousness of Eeckhout.

Scott Kelly will be releasing two records to coincide with the tour via My Proud Mountain; the Spirit Bound Flesh LP will be available on vinyl for the first time, limited to 400 solid red and 300 black, as well as the arrival of Push Me On To The Sun, containing three brand new songs on a one sided, etched 12“ vinyl.

Scott Kelly says of the upcoming dates: "Getting a chance to come back to Europe is always an honor and it's a place where I have always felt so much support for any artistic project that I have created. I very much look forward to traveling and performing with my brother Colin H van Eeckhout, he and I are like minded in art and values and I believe we will bring a significant show to each town we play. It's been quite a few years of my and Colin's friendship leading up to this moment I feel like the weight of this will be felt. I'm very much looking forward to this experience."

Neurosis’ SCOTT KELLY And Yakuza’s BRUCE LAMONT To Kick Off West Coast Tour Next Week

Following their recent stint along the East Coast, Neurosis’ SCOTT KELLY and Yakuza’s BRUCE LAMONT — also both of CORRECTIONS HOUSE – will bring their sonic experimentations to venues on the Western side of the US. Beginning November 30th, the pair will play eighteen shows in nine cities.

Comments Kelly of their latest expedition, “Bruce and I look forward to continuing our live sound experimentation through the Western States for an eighteen-show run starting November 30th in Chico, California and coming home to Oakland, California on December 17th. We were able to get a good idea of what we can do on our initial twelve performances in the Northeast but I feel like we're just beginning to find the deep vein. Please come out and witness this as it develops into something that will undoubtedly lead us to deeper exploration every night and a project and recordings in the future."

Of their recent performance in Chicago, the Obelisk relayed, “Together KELLY and LAMONT offered renditions of Townes Van Zandt‘s ‘The Rake’ and Neil Young‘s ‘Cortez The Killer,’ before finishing off with the CORRECTIONS HOUSE track ‘Run Through The Night,’ taken from their 2013 debut, Last City Zero. Standing side-by-side, KELLY’s guitar and LAMONT’s sax cast a Morricone-style spell over the room, a hard strum spacious with both adding vocals until LAMONT, having layered backing ‘ooh’s, created a sufficient wash and apex that seemed to swell one voice at a time until appropriately consuming. The studio version of that song gets pretty noisy, but live, it was more melodic, and when KELLY got back on mic to whisper out the last few lines, the multi-layer barrage he cut through made it plain that nothing else would follow…” While The Syracuse Skull Collective commended, “one of those incredibly intimate performances that won’t happen very often.”

SCOTT KELLY + BRUCE LAMONT:

SCOTT KELLY (Neurosis, Corrections House) will deliver his patented odes of pain, reflection and redemption with tracks off his solo outings — the bleakly atmospheric Spirit Bound Flesh and starkly minimalist The Wake as well as The Forgiven Ghost In Me album, released in 2012 under the moniker SCOTT KELLY AND THE ROAD HOME and tunes from the moving Songs Of Townes Van Zandt collection as well as newly recorded numbers to be released next year.

Multi-instrumentalist and vocal sorcerer BRUCE LAMONT (Yakuza, Corrections House, Led Zeppelin 2) has performed/collaborated with an array of artists throughout his storied career. On this run, Lamont will be performing versions of some of the material on his 2011-issued debut solo album Feral Songs For The Epic Decline as well as newer/unreleased material. As with his previous solo outings, LAMONT will be executing multiple instruments and a plethora of vocal styles, with an incredibly layered looping system that culminates into some of the most entrancing live solo artist work one could ask for.

In addition, both KELLY and LAMONT will unite each evening following their respective sets to deafen the masses with renditions of various CORRECTIONS HOUSE hymns. CORRECTIONS HOUSE – which features within its ranks KELLY, LAMONT, Sanford Parker (Buried At Sea), Mike IX Williams (Eyehategod) and recently institutionalized minister of propaganda, Seward Fairbury — unleashed their long-awaited sophomore full-length, Know How To Carry A Whip, via Neurot Recordings last month. A nine-track, forty-five-minute exercise in sonic indecency, the record was captured by Parker alongside Fairbury in a subterranean bunker complex in Vietnam and dispels a disconcerting air of danger, paranoia and looming defeat marked by an inexplicable sense of catharsis.

At these four very special performances, NEUROSIS will deliver a massive two-hour set list, invoking material spanning their entire recorded lineage, from 1987’s Pain Of Mind through 2012’s Honor Found In Decay, with varied set lists at each event. These sets will span the band’s entire career, showcasing the comprehensive evolution, from their primitive beginnings into the seminal, epic outfit of today, as the band’s ever evolving, sonic palette has become a genre-defying template for underground music over the last three decades, avoiding genre classification.

SCOTT KELLY And STEVE VON TILL To Complete The NEUROSIS Experience With Solo Performances At Roadburn 2016

Following recent announcements of NEUROSIS celebrating their 30th anniversary with several live sets in early 2016, including Roadburn Festival, both STEVE VON TILL and SCOTT KELLY have also just confirmed a special night of solo performances at this year’s Roadburn as well.

NEUROSIS is so much more than a band. At times, they seem to be at the heart of a sentient organism, fully functioning all by itself, with the activities of their members and of the entire Neurot family constituting the remaining organs and limbs of this fascinating creature. None of those activities are more deeply connected and wrapped around that ever-beating heart than the solo careers of guitarists/vocalists SCOTT KELLY and STEVE VON TILL themselves. Therefore, it is but natural that the NEUROSIS 30th anniversary celebrations that will take place at Roadburn will also include a typically intimate and profoundly touching solo performance by each of the two musicians.

SCOTT KELLY and STEVE VON TILL will therefore complete the weekend-long NEUROSIS anniversary experience with both performances taking place at the Het Patronaat on Friday, April 15th. Each of them will be a life unto itself that must not be missed.

_______________________________________

Like NEUROSIS themselves, and most of their related other projects, it is not the first time Roadburners will have the immense honor and pleasure to witness these two men alone on a stage pouring their souls out, much more vulnerable and naked than usual, displaying their tremendous courage. Both of them performed solo on the European version of their Beyond The Pale event which enriched the 2009 edition beyond our wildest dreams, and SCOTT KELLY had also played the year before, marking the release of his harrowing second album, The Wake. In these last few years, however, much has happened in artistic terms that will make these concerts an equally fascinating, yet decisively different endeavor. Although he had already released two solo records when he first stepped on his own on the Roadburn stage, the bleakly atmospheric Spirit Bound Flesh and the aforementioned starkly minimalist The Wake, he has since been particularly active as a stage performer outside Neurosis, touring Europe and the United States several times, and often in very good company. The much-praised The Forgiven Ghost In Me album, released in 2012 under the moniker SCOTT KELLY AND THE ROAD HOME, highlighted the collaborative potential of his solo work, and achieving a rare balance between the intimacy of a solo work and the possibilities afforded by a band effort. Since then, he has frequently played accompanied by THE ROAD HOME, which currently consists of the like-minded cohorts that are fellow NEUROSIS bandmate NOAH LANDIS and "Denver Sound" legend Jay Munly. He has also participated in a few split releases, as well as contributing three songs to the first volume of the Songs Of Townes Van Zandt collection. It is the sum of all these experiences that we will witness at Roadburn when Scott sits down, quietly, with his guitar, and we bet there won't be a dry eye in the room when he bows out at the end.

STEVE VON TILL made us wait a little while for the follow up to his superb 2009 album, A Grave Is A Grim Horse, only giving us three songs on that same Songs Of Townes Van Zandt collection in the meantime to stave off the hunger, but every second of wait was worth it when we finally got to hear A Life Unto Itself. Right now, it still resonates deeply within us as much as it did when it was released last May, if not more so – its sparse and starkly elegant mixture of Americana, ancient folk music and psychedelia constantly leaving us pleasantly lost in some figurative deep dark wood. It has the sobriety, the earthy mysticism, the emotional evocative power and same spiritual connection to nature and to forgotten, ancient times his two first albums did, As The Crow Flies from 2000 and If I Should Fall To The Field from 2002, but it's also brimming with surprising electric subtleties which were first explored on A Grave Is A Grim Horse. If we add to this the fact that, alongside his solo work under his own name, STEVE VON TILL also maintains activity as HARVESTMAN, his home-recorded, psychedelic improvised project which he has released three amazing, mind-altering records with (one of them, Trinity, a very appropriate soundtrack to an Italian horror film), and from which he often performs a few pieces during his solo shows, we can expect a varied, dynamic performance, where the flow of continuity is assured by the man’s unmistakable vocal and guitar personality.

Additionally, NEUROSIS will have two of their most revered and long out-of-print titles reissued on super deluxe 180-gram double vinyl this Fall. Through Silver in Blood (1996), which Fact Magazine recently deemed the #1 best post-metal album of all time, has not been printed on vinyl in ten years, while Times Of Grace (1999) is seeing its first pressing in over fifteen years. Additionally, Grace, the 1999 TRIBES OF NEUROT companion piece to Times Of Grace, will also see a deluxe reissue, its first time ever on vinyl. Each reissue will contain reinterpretations of the original iconic artwork, will be housed in heavy duty “tip-on” jackets, and will be available in a variety of limited edition exclusive colors. The reissues are set for worldwide release on September 4th and will also include full album digital download codes.

Preorders for the reissues are now available directly through Neurosis’ own Neurot Recordings at THIS LOCATION.

Since the release of their 1987 debut LP, Pain Of Mind, NEUROSIS has increasingly developed into a more potent and prolific act with each new recording and tour. Through releases on Alchemy, Lookout!, Alternative Tentacles, Relapse, Hydra Head and more -- before forming their own Neurot Recordings which houses all of their recordings since the beginning of the millennium -- the band has become a genre-defining institution of heavy music. The Oakland, California natives have broken ground at every turn, pioneering a sound that influenced heavyweights including Isis, Mastodon and High On Fire and inspiring endless legions of fans with their expansive, mind-altering works, as well as forming their own solo outfits and touring acts outside of NEUROSIS.

In 2012, NEUROSIS released Honor Found In Decay, recorded by Steve Albini at Electrical Audio and mastered by John Golden of Golden Mastering, the album showcasing the band taking their esoteric but leveling and hymns to even further diversified areas of exploration. Following the album’s hometown release show, they disbanded with the backdrop visuals that had accompanied their live set nearly since inception, empowering their anthems in a drastically more human approach. Since the album’s release, NEUROSIS has been heavily proactive tour-wise, embarking on regional bouts of touring and taking part in high-profile one-off and festival events throughout North America and Europe. And the cycle shall continue through the remainder of 2015 and onward towards their eleventh studio album.

NEUROSIS Prepares For Most Widespread North American Tour In Nearly Two Decades

In less than three weeks, NEUROSIS will embark on the band’s most widespread North American tour since before the turn of the millennium.

On the eve of their thirtieth anniversary, the forceful aural surge of NEUROSIS will be felt with a deluge of performances set to take place in sixteen cities across America and Canada this Summer. Support on this venture will be provided by a rotating, dynamic spread of acts, including nomadic doomsday cult, The Body, expansive rock duo, Sumac (members of Baptists, Old Man Gloom, ex-Isis, etc.), Pinkish Black and labelmates Iron Tongue, not to mention support from labelmates Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth (featuring Tad Doyle of TAD and Hog Molly) for the entire trek, excluding NEUROSIS’ participation in the immense Montréal Festival where they’ll join the likes of Mastodon, Meshuggah, Gorguts and many others.

A Life Unto Itself ventures into compelling uncharted territory for its maker. Steve Von Till’s weathered, distinctive voice and sparse acoustic guitar provides a foundation, but a much wider variety of sonic textures are presented here. Bold and ambitious arrangements weave vintage synth, sublime strings, percussion, and electric guitars throughout these unique and expansive songs, as Von Till’s raspy whisper dives deeply inward, and speaks genuinely of visions, memories, and self-reflection in a way that feels both seasoned and exposed.

The majority of A Life Unto Itself was captured at Avast! Recording Co. in Seattle under the direction of producer Randall Dunn (Earth, Sunn O))), Wolves In The Throne Room, Marissa Nadler and Rose Windows), with additional recordings handled at Steve Von Till’s own The Crow’s Nest, and the final product was mastered by Jason Ward at Chicago Mastering Service. With guest viola contributions from Eyvind Kang, pedal steel from J. Kardong, and percussion courtesy of Pat Schowe, the album is enshrouded in artwork bearing the recognisable style of Aaron Turner (Sumac, Isis, Old Man Gloom, Hydra Head). All of these factors culminate into a twelve-passage voyage with over forty-five minutes of stirring textures which drill their way immediately to the core of your bones, gnaw your heart’s defense mechanisms to their foundations, and invoke a wellspring of emotions.

A Life Unto Itself LP is out now via Neurot Recordings. Packages for the digital download, CD, and 12” LP on both black and red vinyl, including t-shirt bundles, are AVAILABLE HERE.

NEUROSIS To Embark On Their Most Extensive Stateside Tour In Over Fifteen Years This Summer

As their thirtieth anniversary nears, NEUROSIS will be hitting the road in their most extensive touring of the North American continent in over fifteen years this Summer, the announcement falling as the dust still settles on Baltimore following their crushing performance at this year’s Maryland Deathfest.

Not since prior to the turn of the millennium has the mighty NEUROSIS embarked on a tour of this size, as this week the band confirms more than a dozen new tour dates between the end of July and the middle of August throughout the Midwestern, East Coast, and Southern US states and the lower Eastern portion of Canada. Besides the extensive nature of the tour, they will also be playing in cities and states which they have not visited since the ‘90s.

For this widespread endeavor, NEUROSIS will bring an array of excellent acts to the stage with them, including support from labelmates Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth, featuring Tad Doyle, for the entire trek, as well as eight shows with nomadic doomsday cult, The Body, five dates with expansive rock duo, Sumac (members of Baptists, Old Man Gloom, ex-Isis, etc.), and one show each with Pinkish Black and labelmates Iron Tongue. This all comes in addition to NEUROSIS’ previously announced inclusion in the massive, three-day Heavy Montréal Festival consuming August 7th-9th, where the band will perform the opening night with the likes of Mastodon, Meshuggah, Gorguts, Arch Enemy and many others.

Tickets for the impending NEUROSIS tour will go on sale for all shows this Friday, May 29th.

NEUROSIS Tour Dates:

7/31/2015 Liberty Hall - Lawrence, KS w/ Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth, The Body

As their ongoing legacy nears its thirty-year mark, NEUROSIS has become an institution of heavy music. From their beginnings as a hardcore punk band in the mid-‘80s to their gradual evolution into a transcendent and genre-defying collective, the Oakland, California natives have broken ground at every turn, pioneering a sound that influenced heavyweights including Isis, Mastodon and High On Fire and inspiring endless legions of fans with their expansive, mind-altering works. In 2012, NEUROSIS released one of their most ambitious albums to date, with Honor Found In Decay, cultivated through their own Neurot Recordings. Recorded by Steve Albini at Electrical Audio and mastered by John Golden of Golden Mastering, the album showcased the band taking their esoteric but leveling and categorization-free style of extreme music to even diverse areas of exploration. Following the record release show, the outfit disbanded with the longtime visuals that had accompanied their live set nearly since inception, empowering their anthems in a drastically more human approach. Since the album’s release, NEUROSIS has been more active tour-wise than they have since before the turn of the millennium, and seemingly shows no time of ending the campaign any time soon.
